Takeaway containers
A nineties style thing happened to me today. My wife and I decided to go out for lunch today. We found a lovely bar/bistro/pub that we hadn’t visited yet on the other side of the mountain. The food and service was impeccable, but what stood out to me the most was the customer service. Specifically, the wait staff that brought us our food, noting they were quite large meals and letting us know that they had takeaway containers available for any left overs we had. That one comment made the entire experience for us. Neither of us like to waste anything, and leaving food behind is a pet peeve. Today, though, we ate what we could fit in, relaxed and enjoyed our time in the bistro. When we were ready to leave, I stepped up to the counter and requested some takeaway containers. The containers were actually decent sized containers with appropriate instructions for hot/cold food storage.
This experience told me something - they actually cared about food wastage. They cared enough to ensure their customers were aware and they cared enough to have decent storage available. Furthermore, the containers were of a sturdy yet strong heat resistant plastic that was also opaque. Not that we cared, but someone who might would probably appreciate being able to walk away with a container that isn’t 100% transparent. Again, someone cared enough to consider why people waste food in restaurants and what they could do to make the process of utilising a takeaway container more acceptable.
Suffice to say, I think my wife and I have found our new local.
This is why first impressions are so very important. Not just with restaurants but with anything and everything in life. Every impression will be a lasting impression to someone. Consider every impression as your first (and ideally, lasting) impression and represent the best version of yourself, not the worst.
What are your thoughts?
Unmoderated comments out in the wild aren’t really nineties style, so I’ll meet you half way. You can write to me at: writer.as@nineties.style - Sorry, no conventional mailing address.
I’ve no intention to publish anything sent to me, although I may use your point of view to enhance my own ;-)
Be honest, put in the effort (or don’t) and above all, to thine own self be true.

Let me be clear. I’m no expert on anything you’ve just read. I worked in IT for 22+ years, had something in the realm of a mid-life crisis and now I don’t work in IT any more. These are just my unfiltered thoughts on the topic. Take it with a grain of salt. I read, and I know things.
