How to cook ravioli

A nineties style thing that my parents used to do, was type up their recipes on the family computer. I think it was more an opportunity to practice their touch typing. I just wanted to Command and Conquer. Afterwards, they would print out their recipes and collate them in one of those plastic display folders with the plastic sleeves and plastic rings. Children of the nineties know what I’m talking about. Now I type up recipes and my parents… well, they have a caravan.

Admittedly, I haven’t been printing mine out, but here is a simple set of instructions I follow when I’m cooking up ravioli with garlic bread. The versions are based on the different places we’ve lived in. Moving house every couple of years was another nineties style thing that many of us remember.

Version 1

  1. Preheat the Oven to 180-190°C.
  2. Boil water in a kettle.
  3. Heat a pot for the water and ravioli on the stove.
  4. Put the vegetables in a glass bowl with a few ml of water.
  5. Put the garlic bread in the oven when preheat is met.
  6. Put the water in the pot.
  7. Put the vegetables in the microwave for 11 minutes
  8. When the vegetables are done, put the sauce on for 5 minutes and put the ravioli on.
  9. When the sauce is done. Drain the ravioli and put the ravioli, sauce and vegetables in the pot. Stir.
  10. When the garlic bread is done, take it out and serve up the ravioli.

  7. Heat a pot with the water from the kettle on the stove. Bring to boil (Until 10 minutes remaining)
  8. Put the ravioli in the pot for 5 minutes. Stir (Until 5 minutes remaining)

What are your thoughts?

Unmoderated comments out in the wild aren’t really nineties style, so I’ll meet you half way. You can write to me at: writer.as@nineties.style - Sorry, no conventional mailing address.

I’ve no intention to publish anything sent to me, although I may use your point of view to enhance my own ;-)

Be honest, put in the effort (or don’t) and above all, to thine own self be true.

Before you take a fence…

Let me be clear. I’m no expert on anything you’ve just read. I worked in IT for 22+ years, had something in the realm of a mid-life crisis and now I don’t work in IT any more. These are just my unfiltered thoughts on the topic. Take it with a grain of salt. I read, and I know things.
